The 11th annual Rotary Youth Camp on Values and the 8th Rotary Youth
Leadership Awards (RYLA) took place last weekend at the CICM Seminary in
Talisay City.
Some 37 second year students from various high schools in Negros
Occidental participated in the event which was hosted by the Rotary Club
of Bacolod North.

The two-day program included lectures on leadership skills, love of God,
love of family, love of community, and love of the environment plus
structured learning experience activities and workshops enabling
participants to learn by experience.
"The camp endeavors to inculcate basic values and behaviors that develop
positive leadership and influences among participants", said Louie Gonzaga,
past president of the Rotary Club of Bacolod North.

"We choose sophomore students because after the camp they are expected to
be a positive influence on their peers in their schools and at home. Over
the years the camps have produced many school leaders and some have gone
on to
graduate with honors in their eventual collegiate courses."
Among the sponsors of the camp were the Rotary Clubs of Bacolod North,
Bacolod Marapara, Bacolod, Bacolod West, Bacolod East, Metro Bacolod,
Kabankalan, Victorias and Escalante.
Students came from Fr. Gratian Murray Integrated School, and the high
schools of Luis Hervia, Domingo Lacson, Bacolod City, Brgy. Singcang,
Negros Occidental, Handumanan, Binicuil, Victorias, Escalanate, Bata, La
Consolacion College, Gardenville and St. Scholastica's Academy.
