Inaugural
Speech of the President:
Carmelo Mabayag speech RY 2009-2010
Fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors, guests, fellow northerners and our very
lovely spouses, a pleasant evening!
Eight years ago I was invited to join Rotary of Bacolod North. Without
hesitation, I accepted knowing that Rotary’s tenet of service was greatly
epitomized in our club. Throughout this time, I was immersed in our clubs
activities and projects. Our club meetings were source of information and
fellowship. Our projects provided us with the venue to utilize our
professional expertise in serving and it also served us a venue for more
fellowship. What really impressed me was the enthusiasm with which we
carried out our activities; and the great sense of humor among Northeners!
When you fellow Northeners, elected me to be your president, I hesitated…
that’s the honest truth! I was scared of the expectations of this position
and the thought of the challenges I would face. But then again, you
encourage me (besides I was thinking that, if I delayed and delayed my
club’s call, I might be too old to reach up to the increasing standards
set by our club’s Past President) kidding aside I am honored to be served
with your TRUST!
On July 1 when I call our Club’s meeting to order let me make this call on
you fellow Northeners; let us all be present! Let us start this Rotary
year with a singing enthusiasm! In the service of our club, let us all
maintain more than just a fair attendance in our meeting and projects, let
us all be there and have fun. Let us also enjoy the fellowship, not only
among ourselves, but let us involve our spouses and families!
As we carry on with our various projects, let us our participation create
that indelible impact in our beneficiaries. Let us work together to create
a living set of values among the young boys and girls who join our RYLA
Youth Camp. I encourage every Northeners to share their time to be with
our campers whether in giving the talks on leadership and for loves or
whether you are facilitating in the workshops or even when you share
learning, you will be an exemplar to our campers.
In our medical mission, let us be the active caregivers even if our role
is simply in the trafficking of patients. Our smile as we lead to their
doctors will ease their discomfort.
When spend time sharing our professional expertise during the career fair,
let us do so knowing that we have become a major factor in that student’s
choice of a lifetime profession. It’s that personal sharing that may open
the student’s perspective and lead a credible choice.
When we address the call of RI President John Kenny for us to focus on
Health, Hunger, Water and Literacy, it is for us to respond by choosing
projects that we can carry out effectively and efficiency.
- In the area of Health, I have already mentioned our Medical Mission. We
also have our sight saver program with the Cataract Foundation and our
sister Club- Rotary Club of Canterbury in Melbourne Australia.
- In the area of Literacy, let us use our medical missions as a rostrum
for carrying out lectures pre-natal and post-natal care.
- We will continue providing our water-purification systems for the
different elementary schools in our city.
- The challenge of seeking out a project that enhances livelihoods in
communities is real and urgent. Let us pool our resources to address this
issue.
Over the existence of our club we have enjoyed the great opportunities
offered by the various R.I. projects. We enjoyed sending our children as
Rotary Exchange Students; our presence in Group Study Exchange is a boom
to our club; we receive so many funding in may of our projects. All these,
thanks to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International! Let us ensure the
continued existence and affectivity of Rotary Foundation by each of us
giving, at least $100 this year!
In all of these I am committed to be your servant-leader, your partner in
service. When we all work together in completing that we set out to
accomplished, remember that we are also ensuring the continued existence,
not only of the Rotay Club of Bacolod North, but that of Rotary
International itself…. Because “The Future of Rotary is in Our Hands”
Yes, fellow Northeners, “WE ARE NEXT IN LINE……”
Good evening.
